First Place!Salsa Verde

Stephanie Hayes' Salsa Verde won first prize at this year's competition. She has graciously agreed to share her recipe with us.

This year's salsa contest raised $466 for the Brain Tumor Society. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this year's contest a success.

Salsa Verde6 tomatillos, husked and washed
2 Jalapeno peppers
1 Pasilla pepper
5 cloves garlic
Juice of 1 lime, plus some lime zest
1 Tbsp. olive oil
2 Tbsp. honey
¾ cup fresh chopped cilantro
½ red onion, diced

Toss the tomatillos, onion and peppers with the oil on a hot grill pan or under the broiler until soft (or on a barbecue grill).

Let cool, peel and seed the peppers. Leave some of the seeds for extra spicyness.

Place all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend till smooth.
